Aloe Vera (syn. Aloe Barbadensis)

Hi there!

Lets talk about the Aloe Vera plant or Aloe Barbadensis. It is related to Yucca because it is also part of the Liliaceae family. Aloe Vera is originally from Barbados Islands and Curacao.

The Aloe Vera plant requires high temperatures, withstands 30 degrees Celsius and direct sunlight.

It has modest requirements for moisture and copes with the long periods of drought.

Aloe Vera is attacked by the red spider and the lice test.

From spring till autumn you must place the Aloe Vera plant in full sun, the watering must be moderate and you should ensure a good drainage for the soil in the pot.
The stagnation of water in the pot leads to the rotting of the base of the plant's stem.

The Aloe Vera plant does not require fertilization.

During the winter it must be kept in bright lighted rooms, in front of the windows that face South, with a temperature of 18-20 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature should not drop below 15 degrees Celsius.

The watering must be made rarely and only if the soil in the pot is dry.

This is all I've got about the Aloe Vera plant. I will get back to you later with more information about the Pineapple (Ananas Comosus - syn. Ananas Sativus).

Enjoy reading and don't forget to water your plants!

Aechmea Fasciata

Today we'll talk about the Aechmea Fasciata plant. How to care Aechmea?

The Aechmea Fasciata plant is part of the Bromeliaceae family and it is originally from Central America and South America.

Aechmea is a demanding plant. It needs high temperatures (between 20 and 28 degrees Celsius). The minimum temperature should not drop below 10 degrees Celsius.
It likes a lot of light, but doesn't bare the direct sunlight. Aechmea is very demanding when it comes to the humidity, but you should not let the water to stagnate in the flower pot. Also, the Aechmea plant likes the high humidity in the air.

The Aechmea plant vegetates a short period of time after it blooms and then it dies. Her place is being taken by the side shoots that grow from the base of plant.

Very rarely, Aechmea is attacked by the woolly lice. The plant commonly gets ill from a disease called fusariosis  (Fusarium). This condition leads to root or plant base roting if the substrate of the pot is poorly ventilated or drained. Frequently, a virus occurrs that causes the sudden wilting of the leaves and the discoloration of the Aechmea plant. In these situations, the plants must be destroyed by burning. Kind of sad, isn't it?  :(

Anyway, you should know that the Aechmea Fasciata plant should be placed in bright lighted rooms, but you shouldn't let it in the direct sunlight.

Watering is required as often as needed to keep the substrate in the pot moistened. Spray the leaves of the Aechmea Fasciata plant with water to raise the humidity in the air (required).

The fertilization of the Aechmea Fasciata plant must be made at least two or three times a month. You should avoid placing the plant in the path of cold air currents.

This is about all that that I know Aechmea Fasciata. I hope that this information is useful to you.

I'll be online later to write something about the Aloe Vera plant.
